Bolton Wanderers 2-0 Charlton Athletic
Charlton’s seven match unbeaten streak, that stretched back to the beginning of last month, came to end at the Reebok on Saturday afternoon.
The Addicks were undone by a couple of pieces of magic at Bolton after being in command for periods of the game.Danny Seaborne returned at left-back, allowing Chris Solly to switch back to the right and Lawrie Wilson to push further forward at the expense of Bradley Pritchard.

Chris Powell again started with a five man midfield, two holding players – Stephens and Frimpong – with Wilson, Jackson and Haynes being the more advanced trio. Yann Kermorgant replaced Rob Hulse as the lone striker.

It was the third match in a row that Powell had used the system to stifle the opposition. It was effective until the last quarter of an hour. Indeed, the Addicks had decent chances, with headers from Haynes and Wilson plus a drive from Kermorgant being the pick. Charlton’s build up play was slow and it looked as though the visitors would be content to take a point.

The turning point came when Dougie Freedman introduced David N’Gog and Martin Petrov just past the hour mark.

The classy frontman used his quick feet to create space for himself to fire in goals in the 74th and 80th minutes. It was fitting that the only two pieces of real quality won the game for Bolton.

The secret when a winning run comes to an end is to start another one straight away. Powell will be hoping to do that against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, but he will have to do so without the services of Dale Stephens, who will be suspended. The Bolton born midfielder picked up his fifth caution of the season for a clumsy early challenge.
