Bolton W v Charlton Ath Preview
Bolton W v Charlton Ath Preview

Bolton were expected to make a speedy return to the Premier League and their stuttering start cost Owen Coyle his job.

Crystal Palace legend, Dougie Freedman, replaced Coyle and took Lennie Lawrence with him. Charlton will be hoping for a better a result than they got the last time they face the Bolton managerial duo.

Back in mid September Palace were earmarked as a banker three points for the Addicks. The Eagles won at The Valley that night and have continued in a successful vein since Freedman’s departure. The Addicks are now four points outside the play-off zone and will be looking to extend their seven match unbeaten run.

Bolton drew at Huddersfield last week and were beaten at the Reebok by Ipswich before that.

Chris Eagles will provide the service to the evergreen Kevin Davies and if Chris Powell can negate that threat, his team will have every chance of getting a result.

Powell may have more options available as he ponders his team. Danny Seaborne has recovered from the illness that sidelined him from the Brighton game. Seaborne’s loan has been extended but it is thought Southampton have now inserted a 24 hour recall clause in the contract.

Cedric Evina has returned to full time training but has not played sinced the game at Wolves on 27 October. Powell may want to give him a run out with the Under-21 team before considering him for a first team recall.

Ricardo Fuller is another who is back in training after damaging a hamstring when scoring against Peterborough. Fuller’s ability to create something from nothing may tempt Powell to have the Jamaican on the bench as an option if he has to chase the game.

Dorian Dervite was preferred to Leon Cort against Brighton. The Frenchman’s greater mobility tipped the scales in his favour as Powell looked to combat the pace and power of Craig Mackail-Smith.

Powell has said he will rotate the squad more this season so Cort’s more physical presence will probably be used to combat Davies. Dervite had a good game against Brighton, whereas Morrison struggled. It will be interesting to see of Dervite gets the nod to partner Cort.

Chris Solly is likely to revert to the right with Seaborne returning at left-back. Lawrie Wilson may be pushed further forward.

Powell may well decide to stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation he used against the Seagulls, so he will have to decide between Rob Hulse and Yann Kermorgant as the lone front man. The Addicks could line-up like this:

Hamer; Solly, Cort, Morrison, Seaborne; Stephens, Frimpong; Haynes, Wilson, Jackson; Hulse.

Subs: Button, Dervite, Taylor, Green, Pritchard, Kermorgant, Fuller.

The referee will be Kevin Wright from Cambridgeshire.

It will be a tough afternoon at the Reebok but there is no reason why Charlton can not keep their unbeaten run going.
