Chatham Town Women returned to winning ways on Sunday in their rearranged game at London Seaward, but the 3-1 win left Coach Keith Boanas a frustrated boss.
Talking to KSN after the game, the Chats boss admitted, “I’m happy that we responded to a poor first half which wasn’t a disaster, but we still should have been in front and the fact that we conceded another sloppy goal is wrangling with me!”
“We worked on it in training this week to make sure that we didn’t concede goals like that after last week’s Cup loss to London Bees.”
That goal gave the home side the lead but goals from Darcy Wells, Lottie Sharp and Amelia Woodgate saw the Chats take the points, but the boss wasn’t happy!
“There were a couple of debuts out there and we shuffled the back four around a little bit, but we responded getting the goal back from a set piece which is somewhere we know we should be scoring more from!”
“We changed some things at half-time and which of their players were a threat and we went out and dominated even more making the decision to get Lottie Sharp on straight away – she did really well considering she lost her grand-mother during the week.”
“Ellie Jeffkins had done a high-level fitness thing on Saturday and was a bit leggy so we didn’t start her, and we’ve lost Jess King to the concussion protocols after last week – she’ll miss minimum next two games, she might make the last game before Christmas, I hope she does, but you have to follow the stages these days!”
“And to top that Millie Raynor hurt her hamstring in a training game with London City (her parent club) otherwise she would have started.”
“Definitely though when Lottie came on, she made a difference straight away and she did exactly what I asked her to do and created more opportunities and ignited Amelia (Woodgate) on the other side.”
“I think we got the best out of the front three in the second half. The number of balls that skimmed across the box you are literally talking about a knee or a shin or sticking a leg out and there’s another three goals there without any doubt at all.”
“We consciously are working on that too after missing one touch opportunities previously, but we never got the chance.”
“Happy with the response, but disappointed we didn’t score more goals as they could matter!”
Chats return home on Wednesday night to face Dulwich Hamlet in the Isthmian League Cup. Arguably, the Chats best performances of the year have thus far been in their midweek games and Boanas agreed.
“Even when we lost to Hashtag two-nil, it was probably one of our best performances – I don’t know what that is?”
“Perhaps it’s because we train on a Tuesday and they come in on Wednesday sharp and on edge, but that was earlier in the year when the weather was warmer, so we’ll see on Wednesday.”
Kick off at the Bauvill on Wednesday at 7:45pm.
