Bloor: ‘We’re better than we showed today’

Despite hitting the bar twice and being thwarted by a spectacular save at the death. Welling United were not at their best against Farnborough, and had to settle for a point. After the match Danny Bloor gave his thoughts to Mark Doig.

After the match Wings’ manager Danny Bloor said, “I didn’t think we played very well today. As you’ve seen this season, we’re better than we showed today. Maybe give credit to Farnborough. They didn’t allow us to play. I felt we looked a bit leggy. Perhaps playing on the Wednesday night rather than the Tuesday night had an effect.

“Farnborough are an effective side. They play in a certain way and to get a point is a point gained in my opinion. We need to get to forty-five points as quickly as possible. It’s another point on the journey.”

He continued “It was a bitty game. In all honesty we’ve seen some crackers here recently. I know there were four goals but it was a poor game. Lets not beat about the bush. It wasn’t the greatest game but Welling United football club have gained a point. That’s five unbeaten now, we’ve scored plenty ol goals but what we do need to rectify is that we’re conceding too many.”

Although the played poorly, they weren’t helped by controversial officiating decisions but Bloor did not want to be too critical. He said “I’m not going to make one comment about the referee because it’s a hard job for them so we’ll leave it at that.”

Bloor also refused to be drawn into commenting about the way their opponents play, saying. “I’m not interested in what Farnborough do. I’m interested in our team. We try and play football in the right manner. We didn’t win today, but we didn’t lose. It’s not for me to comment on Spencer (Day)’s team.”

Tristan Abrahams was thwarted by an incredible stop in the last seconds. Bloor said “What a save from Jack Turner. That’s why he’s one of the best goalies in the league.” He then went on to speak about young Welling substitute Enoch Muwonge.

“I felt Enoch had a great impact when he came on.” he said “Enoch is going to be a proper player. He is a young boy, immensely talented, he had a good grounding at Watford and he’s someone who really excites me.”
