Tristan Abrahams scored a hat-trick as Welling United stunned runaway Vanarama National League South leaders Yeovil Town. After the game, Danny Bloor gave his views on a brilliant performance to Mark Doig.
He started “I’ve said it all along, we’re okay. The additions of Granty (Anthony Grant) and big Reice (Charles-Cook) in goal certainly helped. Ben Winterbottom is still injured and Javarn is very young.
“We’ve been playing really well. We’re not a side who should be third from bottom. Today was testament. We haven’t just beaten the league leaders, we’ve beaten them in style.”
However, he was keen that everyone remains grounded “It’s three points, let’s not get carried away.” he said “They will probably be the side that goes on and wins the league but we were very good today.”
The win didn’t change Welling’s position in the bottom three and Bloor knows that there are tough games ahead. He confirmed “I want to be looking up. I don’t want to be looking down. The addition of Anthony Grant made a massive difference. We have lacked, there’s no secret, we have lacked experience and there’s no point in bringing in people that’s not good enough. I’ve been working on this for quite some time and we managed to get him in for today. He wore the armband today and I’m sure he would have enjoyed that today.”
Also worthy of mentions were the two goalscorers. “Tristan was very good today” he stated “And let’s not forget Kain Adom as well. Another worldy from him today. It’s hard to single anyone out.”
He also mentioned two players who would probably not have been involved had everyone been fit. Bloor said “It was the best that Taylor Curran has played since I have been here and it was unfortunate that he has picked up a hamstring injury. I felt Will Wood, when he came on, was immense, so lots of plaudits. Lot’s of people have done really well but all that matters is about the three points.”
Games are coming thick and fast and Bloor now has a problem in central defence. He said “Taylor came off, and we’re not over blessed with central defenders, but I thought that Will came on and acquitted himself particularly well. Jack Burchell will be (out for another) ten days, a couple of weeks, but we move on.”
There is no midweek league game, but there is a Kent Senior Cup match at Sevenoaks Town on Wednesday night and he may look at options from within the club before assessing the situation ahead of their trip to Weston-super-Mare.
