Never-say-die Welling United ended their ten-match win-less run in an entertaining game with Slough Town that left boss Danny Bloor pleased.
After the game that ended 4-3 to The Wings, Danny Bloor said: “We’ve seen loads of games like that. Unfortunately, at times, it’s been a draw or we’ve been on the wrong end of it.”
“You’ve got to catch your breath, and it’s a good job that I don’t have any hair because I think that it would be well and truly gone.”
He continued: “We had an event at the club last night. It was billed as ‘Meet the Manager’ but I was there, my coaching team, and I think that today was an extension of that.”
“I think people there realise what we’re working with, the small budget, difficulties with facilities. I think the fans have been magnificent from day one but everything is crystal clear now and I felt that today the win was so vital.”
As is often the case with roller-coaster type games, it’s not always easy to analyse a game immediately afterwards with emotions running high.
“It was similar to Tuesday, racing into a two goal lead” he said. “We’ll have to sit down and digest it but I’m delighted to get back onto the winning track. We’re unbeaten in five, four draws and a win, and I’m really, really happy.”
“I think you could see that we’ve got a group of passionate young men. I thought that Josh Chambers coming in (on loan from Gillingham) made a real difference. I thought that he looked very, very good on the ball and perhaps that’s what we’ve been lacking.”
“We kept the ball better early on. We just need to stabalise this season and everyone who has paid to come today would have thoroughly enjoyed that game. Apart from a sending off, you’ve seen everything.”
