Laura Tillett brings us up-to-date today with the latest goings on since she was last racing on track and it has been a busy few weeks.
I had just got back from driver coaching my brother at the WSK Final Cup in Adria Italy, and I had to repack for Bahrain where I would be heading off for my second round of the MRF Challenge.
I couldn’t wait to get out to Bahrain as it was a track I had competed at before and really loved, I had also got my best results there last year so I was already setting myself a goal to improve on them.
The Bahrain round was held as the support race for the World Endurance Championship so the atmosphere was amazing and really pumps you for the race.
Getting on the circuit I had made some improvement from the last round and felt super confident. Being in the top ten for both practice sessions I would have been gutted with any lesser result, so when I qualified tenth I was happy as this was my best qualifying position in cars and I was even closer to making the top five result I was aiming for.
I managed to keep out of trouble in race one and finished eighth, which equaled my best result from last year. In the second race I really struggled with understeer to over steer with the car, as one of my front tyres wasn’t responding like the other three. This little problem dropped me to 12th.
Starting tenth again for my third race I had a reasonable start as people were crashing all over the place but I got a little excited and saw a gap that I just couldn’t slow down quick enough to get and crashed, causing me to retire from the race.
With the DNF in the third race I was starting at the back for race four. I had a great race coming through to finish seventh which was my best finishing result in the MRF, so now my target is defiantly the top five I have been aiming for.
With a big gap between this round and the next at Chennai in January I will be doing a lot of preparation to make sure I can get a great result for the last round.
