Blackpool v Charlton Ath preview

Guy Luzon will be hoping his team can quickly bounce back from Saturday’s disappointing performance against Blackburn.

A game at rock bottom Blackpool will give the Addicks a good opportunity to return to winning ways.

Charlton will travel to Bloomfield Road by train on Tuesday morning. Fans who use the train to follow the team will not be able to get back to London until Wednesday.

The midweek away fixtures have not been kind to Charlton this season and this is possibly the most difficult game of all for travelling fans. Many will opt for an overnight stay by the coast.

It has been a wretched season for the Seasiders and they are currently eighteen points from safety, with just nine games to go. Their situation looks hopeless.

The good run that the Addicks have enjoyed recently has all but ensured their safety but Luzon will want to finish the season on a high, and some of the players need to impress to secure deals for next season.

To some extent, Luzon’s team selection may be dictated by the poor condition of Blackpool’s pitch.

Stephen Henderson came through the Blackburn match unscathed and will continue in goal.

It would be a surprise if Chris Solly is risked on the Bloomfield Road pitch, so Joe Gomez and Lawrie Wilson will contest the right-back berth.

Neither Tal Ben Haim nor Roger Johnson had the best of games on Saturday but are likely to continue their partnership in the heart of the defence. Morgan Fox will complete the back four.

Johann Gudmundsson and Frederic Bulot will probably retain the wide midfield positions, though Chris Eagles – who scored for the Tangerines at The Valley in December – will be pressing for a starting place.

Yoni Buyens and Jordan Cousins will probably be in the engine room, but if Luzon wants to rest one of the duo, Alou Diarra will come into the reckoning.

Tony Watt and Igor Vetokele will be the front pairing.

Luzon could send this team out:

Henderson; Gomez, Ben Haim, Johnson, Fox; Gudmundsson, Cousins, Buyens, Bulot; Watt, Vetokele.

Subs: Dmitrovic, Bikey, Wilson, Eagles, Diarra, Lepoint, Church.

The referee will be Lancashire’s David Webb.

Blackpool have lost three of their last four encounters at Bloomfield Road and Luzon will be expecting his team to add to their woes.

Charlton beat Crewe 5-1 in an Under-21 fixture at Sparrows Lane on Monday afternoon.

Zak Ansah notched his second hat-trick in less than a week, with Regan Charles-Cook and Karlan Ahearne-Grant netting the other goals.

Phillips; Osborne, Lennon, Thomas, Edwards; Cook, Monlouis, Cumberbatch; Kennedy, Ahearne-Grant, Ansah.

Subs: Mitov, Pyke, Gerard, Browne, Umerah.

Goals: Ansah (3), Charles-Cook, Ahearne-Grant.
