A poor result and a poor performance by the Addicks. Their play-off aspirations now hang by a thread.
Frankly, he missed nothing. The Addicks were second best all night, and rarely threatened to score. And to add to their woes, they lost more players to injury.
It took until the 72nd minute before Charlton had their only corner. The home side had 16.
Karl Robinson reverted to his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation. Patrick Bauer was restored to the back line, and Lewis Page played his first game for a year.
Ezri Konsa partnered Jake Forster-Caskey in the deep lying midfield role, with Ben Reeves coming in on the right of the advanced trio.
Josh Magennis played on the left, with Michal Zyro up front, though the pair did swap roles after the break.
Page’s comeback lasted just 18 minutes. He had to be replaced after a sickening clash of heads with Nathan Delfouneso.
But it was the Blackpool man who came off the worst. He had to be stretchered off after receiving treatment for eight minutes.
Later, Chris Solly also had to come off because of injury, and Jason Pearce was clearly struggling at the end.
The Seasiders had to wait until stoppage time before scoring their deserved winner.
Ben Amos rushed off his line to deal with a through ball and made a hash of his clearance. Eventually, Jimmy Ryan found the back of the net.
Charlton now need 19 points from 11 games to reach Robinson’s target of 71 points, which he believes will get them into the play-offs. With games against most of the top teams to come, it looks too big an ask.
The manager took full responsibility for the result and said this after the final whistle:
“We were poor. People may say we were unlucky to concede in the last minute but I think Blackpool deserved it.
“I have to take responsibility – I am the manager. We wanted to make some tactical substitutions with 20 minutes to go but we lost Pagey and Sols through injury, and Pearcey was struggling too, so we couldn’t make the changes we wanted to.
“The players are all very disappointed – I saw all of their faces in the dressing room – but, as the manager, I have the take responsibility for the defeat.
“There’s no point in me blaming the referee or whatever. The defeat is my fault because I am the Manager.
“We took the plaudits at the start of the season and now I have to take this criticism. Would any manager be able to deal with the number of injuries we have? I don’t know but fundamentally I have to take responsibility.”
