Blackpool 0-3 Charlton Athletic

Many Charlton fans have concerns about Roland Duchatelet as owner of the club, they would prefer a local businessman.

They feel that would be a more secure option. Blackpool fans may argue with the views of the Addicks supporters, they are extremely unhappy with how Karl Oysten is running their club.

Igor Vetokele and Tal Ben Haim are being used sparingly at the moment. They were both rested and stayed behind in London. Simon Church and Joe Gomez came in for them.

Frederic Bulot and Yoni Buyens were also given breathers, though both made appearances from the bench.

Chris Eagles got his first Charlton start against his former club, with Alou Diarra replacing Buyens.

Though not at their best on an awful pitch, the Addicks cruised to an easy 3-0 victory. The result all but extinguished the Seasiders’ slim survival hopes.

Just past the half-hour mark, Eagles gave the visitors the lead. Church crossed from the left, Johann Gudmundsson’s shot was blocked, leaving Eagles with the simplest of chances to score.

Eagles’ celebration was subdued, though he did share his joy with the travelling fans before the restart.

The Tangerines rarely threatened but had their best spell just after the break, when they exerted some pressure on Charlton’s defence.

The Addicks doubled their advantage after an hour. Gudmundsson played Church in, and the Welsh international swivelled and fired his first league goal of the season past Joe Lewis.

Gudmundsson scored himself two minutes from time with one of his trademark free-kicks, after Christophe Lepoint was brought down 22 yards out by Tom Barkhuizen.

There was still time for Gudmundsson and Lepoint to go close again.

Guy Luzon’s tactic of getting the ball forward quickly, rather than playing his preferred neat, short passing football worked well. The playing surface was not conducive to the head coach’s preferred style.

The team were staying overnight in the De Vere Village hotel, just outside Blackpool. Hopefully the St Patrick’s Day Irish wedding taking place at the venue did not disturb their sleep too much!

The win elevates Charlton to eleventh in the table.
