All’s well that ends well. A poor first-half was followed by an exhilarating second period, topped by a Callum Harriott hat-trick.
A late turnaround at the Reebok saw Birmingham claw back a two goal deficit to send Doncaster down.
Emotional scenes at the end when Jackson led the players over to the fans, joined by Jose Riga and his coaching staff.
Astrit Ajdarevic waved a final farewell to the crowd when he was replaced by Jonathan Obika.
The goals all came in the last half hour. First, Marvin Sordell put Harriott through with only Matt Gilks to beat. The winger steered the ball past the keeper to put the Addicks ahead.
Eight minutes from time Hattiott added his second. Obika cut in from the left and pulled the ball back for Harriott to spin and rifle home.
Another substitute, Joe Pigott, set up Harriott’s hat-trick. His pass from the right gave Harriott the opportunity to score from the edge of the box.
So an indifferent season ended on a high. Roland Duchatelet would have learned many lessons during his few months at the the club.
Like the fans, he will be expecting a much better 2014/15 campaign. It will be a busy summer with many changes both on and off the pitch.
