The bright, sunny day attracted big crowds to Blackpool’s sea front. The town’s famous illuminations were due to be switched on later which was another factor in the bustling promenade.
Chris Powell introduced Manchester City loanee Abdul Razak at the expense of Bradley Wright-Phillips, who dropped to the bench. Razak played just behind lone striker, Ricardo Fuller.
Blackpool dominated possession in the opening period though the Addicks had their moments. Fuller headed against the underside of the bar from a Kerkar right-wing corner before going close on the stroke of half-time, following a mazy run.
The Tangerines went closest with a 40 yard effort from Gary Fletcher-Taylor who spotted Hamer off his line.
Not for the first time this season, Powell rallied his troops at the interval. Four minutes after the break they went ahead when Cort’s downward header from Kerkar’s left-wing corner found the back on the net.
Kerkar was involved in the second goal too. Following good work down the left, the ball eventually came to Chris Solly who thundered home from 20 yards.
The hosts continued to enjoy plenty of possession but solid defending by the Addicks kept them at bay, the first time Blackpool have failed to score at home in 2012.
