Charlton could scarcely face a more difficult task as they look to bounce back from last Saturday’s disappointing result against Portsmouth.
They visit in form Blackburn, who are unbeaten in all competitions since mid-October, a run of 13 games in which they have scored 30 goals.
Rovers are now third in the table, just a point behind second placed Shrewsbury, and five points ahead of the Addicks.
Victory would extend that gap to eight points over Karl Robinson’s side, who could even drop out of the top six.
Charlton will have to be at their best defensively, and Robinson may feel he needs Jason Pearce’s organisational skills at the back.
He will still be missing Patrick Bauer, Ahmed Kashi andTariqe Fosu as he explained at Thursday’s press conference:
“Ahmed Kashi is out running this week and Tariqe Fosu is having a re-scan this week to make sure he can push forwards, but Saturday will be too early for him.
“Jason Pearce is fit and available, so the list is shortening but it shows you how long it was. We’re still without Patrick Bauer, but he’ll be back on the training field, hopefully, tomorrow. He won’t be too long away.
“It’s funny how you hear Premier League managers talk about losing their star players and it makes headlines, but when we lose our players at a lower level, we just have to get on with it.
“That doesn’t mean that we’re not good enough to go and win. All it means is those who have been knocking on the door for a while need to stand up and be counted.”
As well as Pearce, Robinson has Billy Clarke, Harry Lennon and Ben Reeves – who came on as a late sub against Portsmouth – available again. Former Blackburn striker, Leon Best, will also be pushing for a starting berth.
The Addicks could look something like this:
Amos; Solly, Konsa, Pearce, Dasilva; Aribo, Forster-Caskey, Marshall, Clarke, Holmes; Magennis.
Subs: Phillips, Lennon, Sarr, Jackson, Reeves, Ahearne-Grant, Best.
The referee will be Geoff Eltringham from Tyne & Wear.
Any kind of result from this game will be a real bonus.
