Charlton Athletic slumped to a 3-0 ‎defeat at Ewood Park on Saturday.

An abject second half performance, played almost exclusively  in their own half, saw Guy Luzon’s team lose a second successive game.

Luzon made three changes from the team that faced Huddersfield on Tuesday. Mikhail Kennedy replaced the injured Simon Makienok, with Zakaraya Begdich replacing El-Hadji Ba. In defence, Alou Diarra returned to partner partner Patrick Bauer in the middle, Naby Sarr dropped to the bench.

Kennedy and Bergdich occupied the flanks, with‎ Johann Berg Gudmundsson moving forward alongside Tony Watt.

The game was played in bright sunshine, and the first half was open and entertaining, with both sides having opportunities to take the lead.

Jordan Rhodes was twice foiled by Nick Pope, once when the ever alert striker broke clear, and also after he intercepted an under hit Diarra back pass.

‎Tony Watt had the best two chances for the Addicks, and the Scot may feel he should have got his name on the score sheet.

Rhodes got the final touch to a Grant Hanley flick on from a right wing corner, to give Rovers the lead, on the stroke of half-time.

The second period was dominated by Rovers, with Charlton looking a dispirited outfit towards the end.

A second strike by Rhodes, and a first Blackburn goal for Tom Lawrence were enough to give Gary Bowyer’s team their first win of the season.

Luzon has two difficult away games to prepare for in the next seven days, Crystal Palace in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday, followed by Cardiff next Saturday.

The head coach will need to be at his motivational best.
