Charlton have a reasonable record at Ewood Park in recent seasons, albeit they suffered a 2-0 reverse on the Saturday before Christmas last season.

Gary Bowyer is under fire as Rovers’ boss, his team are currently in the bottom three. It took a late Queens Park Rangers equaliser at Loftus Road on Wednesday, to deprive Bowyer’s team of a win.

Guy Luzon believes Rovers are in a false position, and that the Addicks face a tough task, if they are to record their first away win since beating Blackpool 3-0 in March.

This what the head coach had to say at his Thursday press conference:

“They (Blackburn) deserve to be somewhere around the top 10. They have played very well this season. Also, the table isn’t accurate at this stage with what has happened in the league.

“You cannot judge the league after six, seven matches. Blackburn are a good side with a lot of quality in attack and experience in defence.

“We don’t need to focus on any one player of Blackburn, like Jordan Rhodes. We need to focus on our team, how we organise well and how we can be disciplined and patient like how we played before,” said Luzon before expanding on what his team need to do:

“First, we need to get back to our rhythm. We can’t compare the Rotherham and Huddersfield games. Against Rotherham, we played well, created chances, played with tempo and desire, and did everything to win.

“Against Huddersfield, I didn’t like our tempo and rhythm within the game. We didn’t play well. We didn’t deserve to win.

“We need to come back to our base, which is disciplined with organisation, to try and keep a clean sheet. When we are with the ball, we need to play with tempo, move it well and to create chances.

“I believe that if we continue to create chances like the 21 we did against Rotherham, then we will normally score more than one, but our base should be to be disciplined in defence,” concluded the head coach.

Luzon confirmed that keeper, Stephen Henderson, will not return until October. Cristian Ceballos is another who will not be fit for the trip to Ewood, but Luzon now has most of his squad to pick from.

Nick Pope may have a change or two in front of him. Chris Solly played against both Rotherham and Huddersfield, and with another three games in the next week, Luzon may decide to rest the dual Player of the Year from this game.

Alou Diarra sat the Huddersfield game out, but is likely to renew his successful partnership with Patrick Bauer in the heart of the defence. If Diarra does return, it will allow Bauer to play on the left of the central duo.

Morgan Fox has been carrying a knock but is likely to continue at left-back.

If Solly is rested, Jordan Cousins may deputise at right-back, with El-Hadji Ba and Ahmed Kashi continuing in the engine room, and Johann Gudmundsson on the right in midfield.

Luzon sees Conor McAleny as a left-winger, and may give the Everton loanee his first start.

The strikers have not been at their best recently, but Simon Makienok and Tony Watt may continue up front.

Charlton could look something like this:

Pope; Cousins, Diarra, Bauer, Fox; Gudmundsson, Ba, Kashi, McAleny; Makienok, Watt.

Subs: Mitov, Sarr, Bergdich, Jackson, Kennedy, Ahearne-Grant, Vetokele.

The referee will be Carl Boyeson from East Yorkshire.

Just a single point from two home games against lowly opposition was a huge disappointment. Luzon will hope his ‘back to basics’ mantra will be good enough to take something from this game.
