Ewood Park, though unrecognisable from the pre-Jack Walker years, remains a traditional English football ground.Blackburn

From the away end, it is possible to see people coming across the fields and down a grassy bank top the stadium.

Opposite the main stand, is one of the true delights of a trip to Blackburn. The pie shop is arguably the best in the country and is a must if you are visiting Ewood for the first time.

Last season, on a freezing cold snowy day, Charlton arrested a string of poor results at Blackburn by winning 2-1. A first half thunderbolt from Dale Stephens gave the Addicks the lead and Yann Kermorgant won the game for the visitors, early in the second half.

The team will travel north by train to cut the journey time, which will hopefully increase their chances of getting a result.

Rovers are in good form at Ewood, winning three and drawing one of their matches since losing their opening home fixture to Nottingham Forest.

Barnsley were beaten 5-2, Bolton 4-1 but Charlton may be encouraged that Blackburn have only scored once in their last two home fixtures. A 0-0 draw with Huddersfield was followed by a narrow 1-0 victory over Watford.

The Addicks struggle to keep clean sheets, the 0-0 draw with Blackpool ended a run that stretched back to mid-April. Prior to that, Chris Powell’s side went from December to March, a run of eighteen games without preventing their opponents from scoring. The Blackpool game was the first time Charlton had kept a clean sheet at The Valley since the Peterborough game last November.

Powell will be hoping that the prolific Jordan Rhodes is not in Gary Bowyer’s line-up. The former Huddersfield player has been nursing an injury but seems likely to be fit. Rhodes’ partner, Leon Best, will also test Powell’s back line.

Coupled with the chronic lack of clean sheets, the Addicks shortage of goals at the other end makes winning games a tough task. The side have yet to score more than twice in any league game so far this season.

Powell may again be without main striker, Yann Kermorgant. Charlton are paying a heavy price for the folly of putting the Frenchman on for the last eight minutes of a lost cause at Burnley last month.

Kermorgant is nearing fitness but Powell will not want to risk a recurrence of his troublesome ankle problem by rushing him back too soon.

Long term absentees, Chris Solly and Leon Cort, will again miss out but Johnnie Jackson could be involved, after recovering from a groin strain. The skipper was considered for a run out at Dartford in the week but, again, Powell will be cautious, particularly if the pitch is heavy.

The manager is likely to continue with his diamond midfield, with Bradley Pritchard, Cameron Stewart and possibly Jackson pushing for starting places. Powell may go with this team:

Hamer; Wilson, Morrison, Wood, Wiggins; Cousins, Gower, Stephens, Stewart; Church, Sordell.

Subs: Alnwick, Evina, Dervite, Pritchard, Jackson, Harriott, Pigott.

The referee will be Kevin Wright from Cambridgeshire.

This will be a really tough game for the Addicks and they may have to wait a while longer for their second win of the season.
