Following their return from a hard earned point won at Weston-super-Mare on Saturday, Welling United visit Bishop”s Stortford on Tuesday evening.
Co-caretaker manager Tristan Lewis suggested that the point gained would seem better if combined with a good result at Bishop’s Stortford but far less so if they return from the tricky game empty handed.
There are not expected to be many, if any, changes to the Welling line up. “We’ve got a small group, we all know that, and we’ve got to look after them. If we have to make one change in the shape, we don’t want to make two or three by moving people around.
“I think the boys have all got different weapons to offer. Will it be the same kind of side? Yes. Maybe one or two tweaks. We’ll review the video and if we get the same work rate out of them, we can’t complain. We want all three points. No question.”
He confirmed that consistency was key. “I think that a settled side is important. The back four has been settled. The two in midfield have been really good. The front three or four can all rotate round and do a bit and you always know that when you’ve got Adam Coombes in the side, you’ve always got the threat of a goal.”
Christian Nanetti left the club last week and Tom Richards came in and made his debut at Weston. He was not a like for like, though, and Welling have now brought in Vas Karagiannis on a one month loan from Maidstone United. Having had a short spell at Welling previously, he will be hoping to make his second Wings debut at Bishop’s Stortford.
When the two teams met in August, Welling’s first home game of the season, the Blues returned home with all three points. Jamie Slabber’s near post header from Sam Hatton’s corner put Welling in front just before the break but Tambeson Eyong equalised just after the hour mark.
After that the game became very scrappy and it appeared that it was going to peter out into a draw until Jon Nouble was brought down in the area deep into injury, and Bradley Woods-Garness converted from the spot.
On Saturday, they were thumped 4-1 at home to Poole Town so will be looking to rebound quickly but the Welling team will have other ideas.
