The away support at St Andrews was boosted by skipper, Johnnie Jackson, and former keeper, Ben Hamer, who were with the fans in the away section, and posed for dozens of photos.
The duo were going to meet Michael Morrison for an evening out after the match.
The game was very much an end of season affair, with both sides guilty of sloppy passing and miscued shots.
The one moment of real quality, which won the game for Birmingham, came shortly after the introduction of substitute Lloyd Dyer.
Stephen Henderson was called upon to make a couple of smart saves, and Tony Watt went closest for the Addicks.
The winning goal came eight minutes from time after Charlton lost the ball in midfield.
Birmingham swept the ball to Dyer, who cut in from the left, fired across Henderson and into the far corner.
The Addicks had their best spell around the hour mark but failed to make the breakthrough.
There was a nice moment at the final whistle when the travelling fans and Morrison showed their mutual respect for each other. No doubt the former vice captain will reminisce further when he meets up with Jackson and Hamer.
The Valley will be vibrant for the visit of Bournemouth in the season’s finale next week.
Results went the way of the Cherries on Saturday and Eddie Howe’s team could all but seal promotion if they beat Bolton on Monday.
