Wicketkeeper batsman Sam Billings is hoping to take his phenomenal form into today’s Royal London Cup semi-final for Kent against Warwickshire.
The 23 year old from Pembury goes into the semi-final with Warwickshire at Edgbaston with an awesome reputation and will be the prized wicket for the home side after an incredible run of form with the bat.
In just six innings, Billings has past 50 on 5 occasions, whilst hitting 418 runs at an average of 104.50 and all of that with a staggering strike rate of 162.64 runs per hundred balls.
That kind of form has seen former England captains Nasser Hussain and Andrew Strauss tip the Kent wicketkeeper to go on and represent his country, although the gloveman is just concentrating on helping his side to a Lord’s Final:
“I have got to keep churning out the runs and everything else will take care of itself.”
“I like the attention, but I wouldn’t be getting it of I wasn’t putting the performances in. That’s the pleasing thing as I have worked really hard over the winter and I am happy that it’s all coming off.”
“It’s nice to have all the plaudits, but they will mean nothing if we don’t win anything this year.”
Warwickshire will prove a stern test for a Kent side without the likes of James Tredwell and Doug Bollinger, but Billings is backing the side to come good without them:
“We go there full of confidence and although they are a very good side, we will take anyone on at this stage of the tournament.”
“With the bat everyone is making contributions and the bowlers have really stood up lately, so we will go there and look to play to our potential and see where it takes us.”
