Blue Square Bet South league leaders, Welling United, head to Essex on Saturday for the first of three away games in eight days.
Following Tuesday’s four-one victory over Tonbridge Angels, Jamie Day’s Wings will be keen to maintain, if not extend, their lead with a win against another team at the wrong end of the table.
Hosts Billericay Town still have twelve games to fit in between now and the end of the season so will be keen to get the match played to avoid a fixture pile up in the last few weeks of the season.
The Wings are likely to be without Loui Fazakerley and Joe Healy for another two or three weeks but the signing of on-loan striker Jake Reid, who impressed on debut, gives Day plenty of options up front.
Earlier in the season when the two teams met at Park View Road, the Wings won comfortably. They went into the half time break three goals to the good through Ben Martin, Healy (penalty) and Scott Kinch.
Craig Edwards pulled a goal back midway through the second period before Kiernan Hughes-Mason and Jon Main made for a comfortable last ten minutes. In injury time the Blues managed a consolation goal scored by substitute Joe Benjamin.
Charlie Taylor is a former Wing and a regular starter for Billericay.
Eight of Billericay’s remaining twelve fixtures are at home so their league position may be slightly false and the Welling management team will be aware of the dangers posed in Saturday’s game.
