Thursday is the day Chris Powell holds his weekly press conference at Sparrows Lane. This normally starts at around 10.15am.
This afternoon, new Charlton owner, Roland Duchatelet, along with Katrien Meire and Richard Murray will face the British press for the first time.
Finally, Powell and his assistant, Alex Dyer, will attend a Question and Answer session arranged by Bromley Addicks this evening. The meeting will be held at the Bromley Conservative Club starting at 8.00pm, although Powell is a notoriously poor time keeper.
The Bromley meeting will give fans the chance to grill the manager about recent events and coming immediately after Duchatelet’s press conference, those attending should have plenty of questions to ask. The meeting is exclusively for members of Bromley Addicks but fans can enrol on the night.
Topics that may draw questions are Powell’s own contract situation plus the scenario regarding new arrivals.
The Daily Telegraph has reported that Powell is to be offered a new contract. The decision would be welcomed by many as Powell is hugely popular with large sections of Addicks fans.
If true, it remains to be seen whether the contract would be acceptable to the manager. Fans favourite, Yann Kermorgant, was offered a new deal which the striker viewed as an attempt to move him on. If Powell’s powers were diluted and his salary not increased, the manager might find the deal unacceptable.
It has emerged that Charlton were pipped at the post for the signature of Leon Best last week. Richard Murray dropped hints that a deal for Best was imminent last Thursday, but the Blackburn striker signed for Sheffield Wednesday on Friday morning. It seems the Owls were willing to pay a higher percentage of wages than the Addicks.
The Shaun Wright-Phillips story has re-emerged over the last 24 hours, though it is possibly just a re-hash of an earlier story.
Luciano Becchio is another player thought to be on Charlton’s radar, but the Addicks face competition from Leeds and Middlesbrough for his signature.
Fulham midfielder, Derek Boateng, is a player Powell is interested in and young Southampton attacking midfielder, Andreas Robinson, is currently trialing with the club.
Things should be clearer after today’s press conferences but if you want to get the answers straight from the horse’s mouth, you can ask Chris Powell yourself at Bromley tonight.
