Accident for Dixon at Oulton Park

In the final race of the MCE British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park Jake Dixon had a massive accident which would see the Dover based rider hospitalised.

He confirmed from his hospital bed yesterday that had dislocated and fractured his hip in the incident and was awaiting possible surgery to correct the issue, which will be a huge disappointment as he was absolutely flying in the BSB since he made his debut mid-season and indeed he was having another strong round at Oulton Park.
The weekend started well for the team in free practice, for Dixon in particular, and the 20-year old set the third fastest time over the course of the three sessions. It put him and the team in confident mood prior to qualifying but whilst he went quicker still so too did the majority of the field and he lined up for the first race in 14th place. Locked in battle for much of the race with fellow BMW rider Lee Jackson, Jake eventually finished in 11th place for yet another solid BSB finish.
It was a similar story in Sunday’s opening encounter but on this occasion, Jake was always running inside the top ten on the Briggs Equipment BMW. Part of a six-rider battle for seventh place, positions changed hands frequently but by the end of the 18 laps, Jake claimed a strong eighth place for his second best finish of the season so far.Jake Dixon - Oulton Park 1 - PSP Images
The final race saw him start strongly as he ran in 11th place in the early stages but it all went wrong on the fourth lap when he crashed heavily at Britten’s chicane resulting in the safety car being deployed as he was attended to. The talented youngster was subsequently taken to Chester Hospital for further assessment with him expected to miss the next round at Donington as a consequence.
Speaking after the racing Team Owner, Lee Hardy said of Dixon: “We’ve certainly experienced some ups and downs this weekend and for Jake to finish eighth in Sunday’s first race was a mega result. I was really pleased and we made a few more changes to the bike which we thought would make him even stronger in the third and final race.
“Sadly, we never got to see if that would be the case as he crashed heavily at Britten’s. It was a frightening looking crash and until we get to study the data we won’t get to know or understand the cause. He’s being assessed now but he’ll almost certainly miss Donington Park next weekend so we’ll give him all the support he needs.”
Everyone at Kent Sports News wishes Jake all the best for his recovery and look forward to seeing him back in the BSB very soon.
