England batsman Ian Bell has praised Kent captain James Tredwell after helping the side to a 48 run win over Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy.
Tredwell was drafted into the England side at short notice at Edgbaston with Graeme Swann suffering a back problem in the morning of the match in Birmingham.
Coming into the game, Tredwell had already made 15 appearances for England and once again showed his prowess by taking 1-51 in ten probing overs.
Speaking after the game, Bell spoke highly of the Kent spinner:
“Jimmy Tredwell never lets us down,” said Bell. “He’s got a great record for us. It was unfortunate when Swanny was injured but, like I said, Tredwell is the perfect bloke to come in and replace him.”
“He’s been fantastic for us every time he gets the opportunity. I’d say the way he goes about his business is outstanding.”
Tredwell could be unfortunate enough to miss out on selection when England play their next game should Swann be deemed fit enough to return to the side.
England’s next group game sees them take on Sri Lanka at The Oval on Thursday.
