Beckenham Town vs Margate – Preview

On Tuesday evening Beckenham Town host Margate in the Isthmian League South East Division.

Having had a reprieve from relegation last season, few would have tipped the Becks to be leading the league at this early stage of the season, but their victory at Deal Town on Saturday moved them up to the peak.

Their guests, Margate, are also unbeaten but have played fewer league games while continuing their F.A. Cup campaign. They are accustoming to their new division following relegation from the Isthmian League Premier Division last term.

They progressed in the cup on Saturday thanks to a four-nil victory at Bognor Regis Town. Harvey Brand opened the scoring in the fourth minute and an Ibrahim Olutade brace gave the Gate a three goal advantage by half time. Ben Greenhalgh rounded off the goalscoring with four minutes remaining. Their reward is a third qualifying round home tie against Horsham.

Five wins and a draw have put Beckenham clear of Ramsgate and Sheppey United, however both have played fewer league matches and still boast one hundred percent records. Beckenham’s success on Saturday was a come from behind victory. It took Deal just seven minutes to go ahead through a Macca Murray penalty and they held their lead until the break. Matt Holland levelled ten minutes into the second half and Tyler Anderson scored what turned out to be the winner in the seventieth minute.

As the two teams were in different divisions last season, they did not meet but both will be keen to claim the points to maintain their early season form.
