Beckenham Town v East Grinstead Town preview

On Tuesday evening Beckenham Town host East Grinstead Town in the Isthmian League South East Division.

Currently in fourth place in the table, the Becks may have to concede the title to Ramsgate or Sittingbourne but are very well placed for the play-offs should they have as solid a second half of the season as they have in the first.

They visited Steyning Town Community on Saturday and looked in charge when Louie Theophanous put them ahead midway through the second period, scoring his eighth goal in eight league games. However, they couldn’t find the all important second goal and were sucker-punched by a controversial penalty that was converted with one minute remaining. Consequently, they had to settle for a point.

Their guests on Tuesday, East Grinstead, are in fourteenth place, nine points above the drop zone. They visited Herne Bay on Saturday and returned home with all three points. Ricardo Thompson and Charlie Harris had them two up by half time but they had a nervous final fifteen minutes when Michael Salako pulled one back. However, their defence held firm to claim the win.

At home Beckenham have won five, drawn one, and lost two while, on the road, the Wasps have won four, drawn two and lost three, which is far better than their home form.

In last seasons corresponding game between the Becks and East Grinstead, the hosts won three-nil. Finlay Lovatt gave them the lead in the twentieth minute and two goals in five minutes just after the hour mark ensured them the three points. Steven Townsend and Anthony Adesite were on target after the visitors’ Connor Tighe was sent off in first half injury time.

Should Beckenham avoid defeat, they will move above Margate into third place and a win would end their four game run without a victory.
