Beckenham Town v Croydon Athletic preview

Beckenham Town return to Isthmian League Division One South East action at Eden Park Avenue on Tuesday night when they take on local rivals Croydon Athletic.

Becks go into the game just one place below the play off places in sixth, with at least two games in hand on the teams above them, but their hopes of breaking into the post season spots were hampered by a 6-2 defeat at Three Bridges on Saturday.

Louis Theophanous and Elliott Romain with the goals for Del Oldfield’s side. The loss leaving Beckenham on 59 points from 33 league games, 5 points behind Merstham in fifth who have played two more matches.

Croydon Athletic make the short journey over from Thornton Heath sitting in fifteenth place with 43 points from 35 matches. On Saturday The Rams drew 1-1 at home against Broadbridge Heath, Ibby Akanbi with the equaliser for Keith Millen’s side after they had gone behind early on.

When the sides met at Mayfield Stadium in August the game ended 1-1, Jack Holland on target for The Becks, before Mekhi Savage equalised in injury time.

The return fixture was originally set for New Year’s Day, but this was abandoned due to bad weather. This match looks set to be equally as close on this occasion with local pride as well as league points at stake.

Entry for the game is £10 for adults, £ 5 for concessions, Under 12s are free. Kick off is at 7:45pm.
