Bearsted picked up their first League win of the season with a derby victory over their rivals from the other side of Maidstone.
This was a funny game as Bearsted played well but found themselves two down at half time, then in the second half, scored four without reply which sets them up for Saturday’s FA Vase game against Bexhill United.
The first real half chance of the game came in the 5th minute when a cross into the area found Matt Gethine 10 yards out, his header hit the top of the crossbar.
Bearsted thought they had taken the lead in the 13th minute when a long ball forward came to Peter Williams who went into the area, passed forward to Reece Collins who from 15 yards smashed in but the Assistant Referee gave offside.
Two minutes later Cameron Croucher on an overlap crossed into the area for Collins but his header went just over the bar. Bearsted were dominating possession without scoring and in the 23rd minute they should have taken the lead when a long ball forward saw Collins in on goal on his own but from 12 yards he smashed his shot against the cross bar, which was cleared.
In the 33rd minute against the run of play K Sports took the lead when James Alderman’s corner into the 6 yard box was headed in by the smallest player on the pitch Jason Perry.
Three minutes later Ryan Croucher 35 yards out saw his snap shot go just past the post. In the 40th minute Alderman on the edge of the area saw his curling effort go past the post but three minutes later they increased their lead in comical fashion, a long ball forward saw Gethine chasing it as well as Andy Foster and Kit Warner came rushing off his line but Foster got their first, and he toe poked it past Warner into the empty net.
K Sports started the second half with a glorious chance to extend their lead when in the 48th minute, Gethine challenging for the ball with Graeme Andrews got to it, then passed sideways for Kerron Bryman but from 15 yards on his own he smashed his shot over bar.
This would prove to haunt them, as in the 56th minute Ryan Croucher’s corner ended up at the back post where Sam Flisher was, he bundled it in from 6 yards.
Three minutes later they had equalised when Cameron Croucher crossed into the area where Adam Highsted went to catch it but under pressure from Williams dropped, Williams reacted first and headed into the net.
Bearsted were now buzzing and K Sports were devastated, it got worse for them in the 66th minute Collins on the right moving forward passed inside for David Baronowski who from 10 yards shot home.
Four minutes later, it was four when Collins crossed to the back post where Baronowski was, he had time to control it and smash it in from 6 yards.
In the 80th minute a free kick into the area found Jack West and his overhead kick was easily saved by Warner. In the 83rd minute it could have been five when Cameron Croucher combined with Williams on the edge of the area, Croucher in the area saw his shot parried away by Highsted but straight to Williams but from 10 yards he screwed his shot wide.
The final went and all of the Bearsted players, manager and supporters were over the moon with not only the points but the performance so hopefully they can look forward for better times while K Sports will be devastated that they did not finish the job off but it is early in the season.
