This was the a game of two halves as Bearsted were in the next round then Spelthorne came back and have another chance Tuesday night.
Bearsted came into this game looking for their first win of the season after losing last week to Stansfield & Spelthorne were the same so a draw was probably on the cards but after 45 minutes you would have thought Bearsted were through but Spelthorne had other ideas.
Bearsted came out of the blocks quickly when in the 2nd minute they nearly took the lead when Jordan Abibio on the right wing cut in & his shot was blocked but came out to Sam Stace & from 10 yards his curling shot went just over the bar but 5 minutes later they scored when Abibio on the right saw his cross chested in by Oliver Freeman from 5 yards out.
Ten minutes later it was two when Stace picked up the ball in midfield & set Freeman up & he raced into the area before shooting home from 10 yards.
In the 25th minute it nearly became three when Abibio retrieved a cross & then beat two defenders & passed out to Stace who turned & saw his shot go agonisingly wide.
In the 32nd minute Abibio on the right wing controlled the pass & cut inside but his weak shot went past the post. In the 35th minute it became three when Omotunmase Arandi on the left wing went into the area but was fouled & a penalty was given, up stepped Freeman & he coolly shot it into the bottom right hand corner for his hat trick.
Two minutes later Joel Wakefield on the edge of area picked up the loose ball & his shot went just over the bar.
The half time whistle went which Bearsted did not really want as they dominated from the first minute to the last with Spelthorne looking out of it.
The second half started with Spelthorne upping the ante & in the 48th minute Leon Ilhobe on the right saw his low cross miscued back to Tom Benham by Ryan Blake. A minute later Joshua Penemo saw his 18 yards shot go over the bar.
Bearsted finally had a chance in the 56th minute when Freeman controlled a throw in & from 20 yards his shot went wide. In the 56th minute Spelthorne got a goal back when Ilhobe took a free kick from 25 yards which flew into net giving Benham no chance.
In the very next minute Arandi in the area but his curling shot went wide & in the next minute game on as Ilhobe received the ball 30 yards out & chanced his luck & it flew into the net leaving Benham clutching at thin air.
Time was running out for Spelthorne & in the 87th minute they should have been dead & buried when Alfie Saunders on a breakaway ran on into the area & then laid the ball on a plate to Ababio but from 5 yards he shot over the net & then disaster struck in the very next minute when a long ball into the area saw Pierre Gundrum beat Benham to it & his header went into the net.
The game ended with both teams in a blur to what had happened & they go again next Tuesday for the right to play Crowborough away.
