What an entertaining end of season game played between both sides who had nothing to play for but position in the League and Bearsted in winning amassed their most points in a season with two games to go.
Tunbridge Wells started the quicker & in the 4th minute a free kick floated into the area found captain Freeman Rogers but his header went just wide of the post then a frantic 60 seconds when first Fjord Rogers found himself in the area but under pressure his shot was saved by Billy Johnson’s legs then Bearsted went up the other end & captain Jon Rogers 20 yards out saw his shot saved by Aron Lee Wharton but was cleared then it was crossed low to the back post for Sam Stace to slot home from 6 yards.
The game went quiet for the next 15 minutes then chances came firstly for Wells as a ball into the area saw Kyle Lighfoot’s overhead kick saved then three minutes later Wells deservedly equalised when Lightfoot threaded the ball through for Matt Gething & as Johnson came out he slotted the ball into the net from 12 yards.
Wells were now controlling the tempo of the match & in the 23rd minute another chance came their way when a long ball out ricocheted to Gething who ran into the area before passing back to Lightfoot & his curling effort went just past the post.
Bearsted finally had a half chance come their way in the 29th minute when Giorgio Russo’s free kick into the back post saw Ryan Blake head just wide.
In the 34th minute Wells nearly took the lead when a corner was taken quickly & the cross into the area found Gething but his flicked header went just past the post.
Bearsted had another half chance in the 41st minute when Jon Rogers got the by-line & his low cross was met by Joel Wakefield whose flicked shot hit the side netting then in the 45th minute a cross into the area saw Jordan Ababio’s header superbly saved by Wharton but in the next minute they did score when a long ball forward found Wakefield on his own & he went into the area before shooting past Wharton.
The second half started like the first with Wells in control & in the 47th minute Wells equalised when Frankie Griffen in acres of space received the ball on the right & went forward before curling his cross to the back post for Gething who passed it into the net from 6 yards.
Wells again dominated possession with Bearsted relying on breakaways. Another chance fell to Wells in the 52nd minute when a corner to the back post was retrieved by Gething who laid the ball into the path of Jordan Wells & from 20 yards his shot went wide, another chance came three minutes later when a long throw into the area was half cleared to Danny Keyte who from 20 yards volleyed just wide.
The game went quiet for a while & then burst back into action when in the 78th minute a free kick into the Wells penalty area found Ababio who laid the ball back to Andy Irvine but from 10 yards he shot wide.
In the 83rd minute a cross to the back post found substitute Cameron Wooton & his side foot effort hit the sidenetting. The game was drifting away to be a draw & then in the 4th minute of added on time disaster struck Wells when Irvine disposed Robbie Bissett & ran on into the area to shoot past Wharton. The final whistle went seconds later.
