Bearsted 1-1 Larkfield & New Hythe
Bearsted 1-1 Larkfield & New Hythe

Bearsted got their first point in four games with a score draw against a resilient Larkfield & New Hythe team who themselves were looking to get nearer the play-off places.

The game did start fast with Bearsted having the first chance which they should have scored when in the second minute some nice inter play on the right saw the ball played across the goal to Eniola Hassan who six yards shot straight at Carter Sullivan who pushed it away for a corner.

From the corner Sam Flisher rose and from eight yards headed over the bar. In the ninth minute Larkfield had their first chance when a long ball forward saw Nathan Daly latch onto it and went into the area before passing into the path of Matt Day who shot from five yards, but Frankie Leonard made a superb save to keep it out.

Two minutes later Conrad Lee in the area saw his six-yard effort saved by Sullivan. In the 13th minute Nathan Gordon saw his 25-yard free kick deflected just past the post.

The game then went into a lull as both sides did not like to keep the ball and then the last chance of the half came in the 33rd minute when a corner to the far post found Daniel Melvin but his header went wide.

The rest of the half was like a pre-season game as both sides seem to through the paces. Half time arrived and most of the spectators would hope for a better half than what they had seen.

The second half was a lot better as both sides upped their game as in the 49th minute Larkfield scored when a cross into the area found Tyler Ibis on his own eight yards out and he shot home.

This seemed to galvanize Bearsted as in the 52nd minute a long ball forward saw Hassan get to it first and he went into the area and chipped the onrushing Sullivan, but Nathan Daley cleared off the line.

In the 74th minute a long throw into the area found Connor French who turned sharply but shot into the sidenetting. Bearsted got their deserved equaliser two minutes later when Hassan went on a mazy run into the area and was fouled and a penalty given, up stepped French who shot into the top left-hand corner.

The last 15 minutes was harem Scarem as both sides went for the win. In the 82nd minute Luke Russell on the back post volleyed back across goal for Harvey Welford but his shot went wide of the post, three minutes later and it was Bearsted’s chance when a corner to the back post was headed back and French from three yards saw his shot saved by Sullivan.

The game was in the sixth minute of added on time when Bearsted thought they had won the game when Jack Palmby 25 yards out saw his shot go narrowly past the post after this the final whistle went and a draw was probably the right result.
