Bearsted created history again as they progressed to the last 64 in the country with a hard fought victory over Newhaven, for this victory they picked up £900 & so far in this great run have won £2450 & also £3210 from the FA Cup, so what a season so far for the Bears.
The money will help the club immensley.
The first half saw Newhaven take the game to Bearsted without causing Scott Andrews any problems, in the 3rd minute Tom Cocklin’s free kick into the area found Ebou Jallow & from 10 yards on his own his header went wide.
The game was played at a frantic pace with Newhaven passing the ball around but their final ball was missing. Bearsted had their first half chance in the 26th minute when David Baronowski on the edge of the area saw his deflect straight to Jake Boss.
The game was looking like a 0-0 scoreline at half time but against the run of play Bearsted took the lead in the 40th minute when Peter Williams on the right wing crossed to the back post where it was headed goal wards but Ian Robertson appeared to handle it & a penalty was given, Williams took it & knocked it into the bottom right hand corner.
This seemed to deflate Newhaven & in the 44th minute Bearsted could have doubled their lead when Reece Collins was put through on the right & he went into the area & saw his near post shot saved by Boss.
The second half started with Bearsted coming out & attacking more than the first, in the 51st minute Baronowski found himself in the area & his snapshot was saved by Boss then in the space of three minutes they could have doubled or trebled their lead firstly in the 55th minute a free kick to the back post saw Greame Andrews rise & his header came back off the post then Lucian Scarlett retrieved a ball out on the left & went into the area & dinked the ball to Collins who chested it down & his shot came back off the same post.
In the 64th minute Newhaven had a rare chance when Ian Robertson’s free kick from the left forced Scott Andrews to push it away. Ten minutes later & Collins was put through & he raced into the area but saw his shot go past the far post. Bearsted were now forcing the pace & in the 78th minute Williams put Collins in again but his shot from 15 yards went over the bar.
In the 89th minute Jonathon Rogers powered his way through the middle & once in the area his goal bound shot was deflected for a corner.
Another glorious chance came in the 2nd minute off added on time when Rogers passed into the path of Collins & from 15 yards his shot was palmed away by Boss.
The final whistle went & Bearsted celebrated as they continue their march to Wembley. On Monday they will find out who they have got.
