Bay & Addicks to try again

The recent bad weather has caused the second postponement of Charlton’s Kent Senior Cup match with Herne Bay on Wednesday evening.Herne Bay2

The Addicks have now lined up a friendly to keep the fringe players ticking over.

Hull City face Derby County at the KC Stadium on Tuesday knowing that a draw will propel them into second place, behind runaway leaders, Cardiff City.

The Tigers are currently third, level on points with Leicester. The Foxes are also in action tonight, they will play Huddersfield in a televised FA Cup fourth round replay at the King Power Stadium. The winners will have a home fifth round tie with Wigan, ITV will broadcast the match on Sunday.

If Leicester win, the Terriers will travel to Burnley on Saturday for a Championship game. Defeat would mean a blank weekend for the Foxes.

So, if Hull can pick up three points from the Derby game, then beat the Addicks on Saurday, they will open up a six point gap on Leicester. They will have played two games more than their rivals but wily manager, Steve Bruce, would rather have points on the board to put pressure on Leicester.

Nigel Pearson will be equally keen that a good cup run does not distract Leicester from their prime objective, promotion to the Premier League.

There is a full programme of midweek Championship matches scheduled for next week. Hull will have another home game, this time against Blackburn, on Tuesday.

If Leicester are in action against Wigan at the weekend, their match with Charlton will be put back 24 hours until Wednesday, so the Foxes could go into the game trailing Hull by nine points.

Both Hull and Leicester will place huge importance on beating the Addicks, making them that little bit more determined when they face the South Londoners.
