Bath City v Welling United Preview

Blue Square Bet South league leaders, Welling United, head west twice this week starting with a visit to Bath City on Tuesday night.Welling United

Following Saturday’s hard fought two-one victory on a very heavy Billericay Town pitch, Jamie Day’s Wings will be hoping to extend their lead with a win against another team at the wrong end of the table.

Hosts Bath City claimed a crucial point with a 90th minute equaliser at home to fourth placed Chelmsford City and will look to build on that to pull further away from the danger zone.

The Wings have fielded the same starting eleven for their last two matches but manager Jamie Day may look to utilise other members of his squad as games come thick and fast.

Results for Welling at Twerton Park have been mixed over the years although Wings’ supporters will remember winning 4-0 there on the opening day of the 2008-9 season. Ryan Martin scored a hat-trick that day and substitute Sol Pinnock claimed the fourth.

On the curtain raiser to this season the two teams shared the points with a one all draw at Park View Road. Aaron Brown put the Romans ahead in the first half before Ross Lafayette scored a debut goal early in the second period. Bath introduced Kurtis Guthrie to the fray on the hour mark however the centre forward has since signed for Welling.

Wings’ loanee striker Jake Reid has also represented Bath City and both ex-Romans will be keen to open their Welling goal-scoring accounts against their former club.

Both clubs will hope this game goes ahead after two postponements, the second at fairly short notice, and those travelling will be keeping a keen eye on weather forecasts.
