Barwell v Welling United preview

After last Saturday’s Vanarama National league defeat at Guiseley, Welling United return to F.A. Cup action this weekend with a visit to Evo-Stick Premier League team, Barwell.

FOOTBALL (WELLING HOME)

Both teams had to win replays to make it into the first round, in Barwell’s case for the first time, and neither fielded the same starting eleven for their fixtures last Saturday.

Loanees Tom King and Harry Lee, plus cup-tied Nortei Nortey, returned for Welling in their defeat at Guiseley.

That turned out to be Lee’s last game for Welling as he has now returned to Leyton Orient. The injury situation at Brisbane Road means he is in contention for their first round game, justifying their decision not allowing him to be cup tied.

Three changes were made to the Barwell team that saw off AFC Rushden and Diamonds for their F.A. Trophy game with Leamington. It did not pan out well for the Canaries and they crashed to a six-one defeat.

In midweek, Welling had a London Senior Cup tie at Croydon, but as expected, fielded an entire team from their Development Squad.

Sam Corne, Ben Jefford, and Xavier Vidal should all return for Welling after missing out last week. Michael McEntegart, who saved a penalty against Grays Athletic at a crucial time, will be back in goal. It is hoped that Michael Chambers, Sahr Kabba and George Porter will all be available following their absences.

Wings’ manager Loui Fazakerley has stated on many occasions just how much help the team gets from the backing of their supporters. Two coaches will be heading for Leicestershire, and with many others travelling by rail and road, there should be a healthy contingent cheering on the Wings.
