In a top of the table clash in front of the BT Sport cameras Bromley were unable to bring anything back on the long journey home as they were beaten by National League leaders Barrow at Holker Street on Saturday evening.
The home side made it twelve games unbeaten as they stayed three points clear, helped by some poor defending by The Ravens.
Playing with a back five Bromley set out to frustrate the league leaders and hoped to grab something on the break, but Michael Cheek cut a lonely figure upfront and only really had one chance which he failed to get on target.
John Rooney went close early on for Barrow, but Ryan Huddart made a superb save to tip his free kick over the bar. The Ravens looked to be doing enough to stay in the game, but just after the half hour mark they fell a goal behind.
A break down the right hand side saw the ball played across the area and with Huddart unable to get a strong hand on the ball Angus ghosted in to convert from close range unmarked at the back post.
After an even start to the second half Bromley had a superb chance to equalise when Wood, enjoying his wing back role, broke up field and set up Whitely, but the sub on his debut scuffed his chance wide of the goal when in acres of space just inside the box.
Only a minute or so later a bizarre second goal killed the game off as Rooney scored from a corner, beating Huddart at the near post with Whitely missing the ball as it zipped past him into the net.
The Bluebirds never looked in trouble from there and had the chances to extend their lead, but in the end the two goals were enough to see off The Ravens and leave Bromley with only two wins in their last seven games.
Neil Smith’s Bromley stay fourth after this defeat and now have a week to prepare for the visit of Barnet to Hayes Lane next Saturday afternoon, a game they need to win to stay in touch with the challengers at the top.
