Like Charlton, Barnsley have yet to pick up a point this season. The Tykes will still be smarting from April’s 6-0 reverse against the Addicks and David Flitcroft will be looking for revenge.
He has some experienced strikers to call upon and will probably go for the two Chris’, Dagnall and O’Grady, to supply the firepower.
Chris Powell is taking a large squad to Oakwell so may not have completely finalised his plans yet.
He will be without skipper Johnnie Jackson, unwisely rushed back for the Middlesbrough game, and may be tempted to go with a five man midfield. Dorian Dervite may be pushed a little further forward, with Mark Gower and Dale Stephens completing the central trio.
Powell admitted that Stephens wanted to return north at his weekly news conference and the Bolton born player will be keen to impress.
Bradley Pritchard will serve the final match of his ban, so Lawrie Wilson may be preferred to Danny Green on the right, with Callum Harriott completing the midfield quintet.
If Dervite is pushed forward, Leon Cort will probably get the nod over Richard Wood as Michael Morrison’s defensive partner.
Yann Kermorgant would be the lone striker.
Powell could go with this line-up:
Hamer; Solly, Morrison, Cort, Wiggins; Wilson, Stephens, Dervite, Gower, Harriott; Kermorgant.
Subs: Pope, Evina, Wood, Green, Hollands, Church, Sordell.
Jeremy Simpson from Lancashire will be in charge of his first Addicks match.
Powell would happily accept a 1-0 win, as would Flitcroft, but the duo may have to settle for a share of the spoils.
