Barham one step closer to Tour

Kent’s Benn Barham continued his remarkable comeback from kidney cancer by finishing fourth in the European Tour Q-School.

The 35 year old from Tenterden finished on eleven under par in Alicante, just five shots off the lead after an impressive round of 69 on the final day.

Barham’s excellent finish at the Las Colinas Golf and Country Club means he will now progress to the final stage at PGA Catalunya.

Dutchman Tim Sluiter won the event, but Barham will now have the chance to qualify for the European PGA Tour when the final stage of qualifying takes place at PGA Catalunya from 10th – 15th of December.

Speaking exclusively to Kent Sports News about the past week, Barham said: “I have worked hard on my game over the past six weeks and feel it is in good shape.”

“Health wise I am getting stronger, so am looking forward to getting back out to Spain.”

For the Final Qualifying Stage, the field will be made up of 76 exempt players and 80 qualifiers with 20 spots being available from each of the four qualifying venues from the last weekend.

Meanwhile, Francis McGuirk from Sandwich had a decent four days, finishing on three under par, seeing him finish the tournament in joint nineteenth place and he too will be making his way to Catalunya this weekend.
