The winning feeling struck the Lords again after coming from behind to win 2-4 away from home against Banstead Athletic in the FA Vase. Goals from Elliott Duncan, Jarred Trespaderne and Quadri Green secured their place in the second round qualifying.
Lordswood came into this fixture following a mid-week friendly against a Gillingham XI (resulted in a 2-2 draw) with a positive mentality for the fixture despite being unsure on their opponent and were urged to get onto the front foot from the get-go.
The Lords did just that and instantly pushed Banstead onto the back foot with a few damaging chances which was eventually followed by a Jake Embery shot in the 9th minute but unfortunately couldn’t find the target.
However, Banstead fought back straight away when a strong chance to go in-front was denied with a great save from Lordswood keeper Leighton Fanshawe. Lordswood were unable to clear their lines from the resulting corner and the hosts took the lead after 18 minutes.
It took Lordswood a while to settle back into the game and we’re starting to feel the pressure from the hosts until the 36th minute, when a Banstead free kick was fired straight at Fanshawe which allowed the Lords to quickly break. The ball found the feet of Elliott Duncan from a cross and he slot it home to equalise.
Just before the half finished, Lordswood’s number 10 Brad Schafer was sent to the sin bin for dissent which put the visitors in a difficult position as this meant they had to start the second half with a man down.
Lordswood were able to continue their late flurry of pressure early in the second half when Callum Peck came close to finding the net after after a successful dribble from the midfield to the edge of the box but couldn’t find the target.
Despite both teams making subs late in the second half they both countered each other and could not find the winning edge, however in the 80th minute Trespaderne fired one in from the 6-yard box to give the Lords a late lead.
Despite this Banstead attacked quickly and a mistake at the back from Fanshawe, who tried to play out from the back, lead to giving the ball to the Banstead striker allowing him to equalise.
The game wasn’t finished yet as Lordswood substitute Quadri Green scored twice within injury time to send Lordswood into the next round of the FA Vase.
