Kent all-rounder Adam Ball took three wickets as England Under-19s maintained their 100% record in the Quadrangular Series with a hugely convincing nine-wicket victory over New Zealand.

High on confidence after defeating hosts Australia in their opening 50-over fixture, Adam Ball’s side wasted little time in making it two wins from two today.

They dismissed New Zealand for just 78, Aneesh Kapil taking 4-6 from five overs and Ball chipping in with 3-10, before dashing to their target with more than 31 overs unused.

England face a winless India side in their final group match on Monday before moving on to the semi-finals on Friday.

New Zealand’s openers put on 34 this morning after being invited to bat first, but things swiftly went awry for the hosts once Joe Carter had been caught behind off Jamie Overton.

Ball removed Michael Davidson and Ben Horne in quick succession, before Kapil got in on the act, removing Henry Walsh, Will Young and Connor Neynens with the score on 56.

The lower order offered little resistance, Kapil and Ball each claiming a further wicket after Nick Kelly had been run out by Sam Wood.

Reece Topley then wrapped things up by bowling last man Ed Nuttall, leaving England with the simplest of chases.

Sam Kelsall departed for 15, but Kent opener Daniel Bell-Drummond, with an unbeaten 41, and Ben Foakes, who finished on 16 not out, ensured there were no further alarms.

Bell-Drummond struck five fours and two sixes in his 58-ball innings, while Foakes – fresh from taking five catches in New Zealand’s innings – found the ropes on three occasions.
