The Sam Baldock rumours rumble on but with Chris Powell and the squad not back in the country until late on Monday, it is unlikely anything definitive will happen until midweek at the earliest.
How good is Baldock? Clearly he has potential but whether he is as good as some think is not so clear.
The Buckingham born 23-year-old netted 29 goals in 96 league games for Milton Keynes Dons and added 5 goals to that total in his 23 games for West Ham last season.
Baldock has never scored more than 12 goals in a season but time is still on his side.
Another rumour is that the Addicks have agreed a deal for Blackburn’s David Goodwillie. Goodwillie is a Scottish international but scored just twice in 20 Premier League outings last season. The Scotsman was previously at Dundee United.
Goodwillie has had problems in his private life and may not fit Chris Powell’s normal template.
At this time of the year agents tend to go into overdrive to try and stimulate interest in the players they represent so it is not always easy to identify which stories have substance to them.
Baldock could join on a season long loan or permanent deal though Goodwillie would probably only be available on a permanent basis. Either or neither of the duo could shortly arrive at The Valley though the only certainty is Charlton will not sign both of them.
They would each cost a seven figure transfer fee which would fuel speculation about how the money would be raised.
The situation should be clearer by the end of next week.
