Shot stopper Ryan Bainborough completes the Invicta Dynamos netminder pairing for 2018/19 with the 25 year old penning a deal and sealing a switch to Gillingham where he will wear number 40 for the Mos.

Goalie Ryan Bainborough is a product of Peterborough youth hockey and rose through the ranks to make his senior debut with the Islanders in the English National League (ENL) – now the National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) – in 2008/09.

He became a regular for the Islanders in 2009/10 aged just 17 before switching to the Slough Jets of the EPL where he deputised for Gregg Rockman. Bainborough iced 6 times for the Berkshire side securing a save percentage of 93.3% as the Jets ended a successful campaign by lifting the EPL Cup.

In 2011/12 Ryan Bainborough became number one for Slough of the ENL and here he featured 26 times for a Jets team that struggled in the league’s top tier. Despite his side lacking the firepower to compete and so finishing at the bottom of the pile, the goalie offered as much resistance as possible and ended the campaign with a very respectable stop rate of 88.4% considering the 1200 shots faced.

His performances caught the attention of the Chelmsford Chieftains and he would become a part the Essex outfit’s netminder pairing in 2012/13. Sharing duties with Ben Clements, Bainborough played 12 NIHL South Division 1 games where he stopped 91.3% of efforts on his net in addition to denying 95.9% shots on his goal in 5 NIHL Southern Cup appearances.

It was another successful term for the shot stopper which ended with him lifting more silverware as he assisted the Chieftains in claiming the league title.

In 2013/14 Ryan Bainborough remained in Essex before switching to the Oxford City Stars for 2014/15 where injury sadly restricted him to just two outings. He was back in action the following term though as he joined the London Raiders – featuring in 15 league fixtures and denying 86.7% of efforts on goal.

He sat out 2016/17 but returned last season to feature Peterborough’s NIHL South Division 2 side. Here he finished with a save rate of 94.8% from 7 games. Now the shot stopper moves to Kent where he will deputise for Adam Long at the Dynamos for 2018/19.

Speaking on the signing of Ryan Bainborough, Head Coach Kevin Parrish said, “Ryan is a solid shot stopper who works hard and is looking forward to making the most of his chance back in the NIHL South’s top tier. Whilst still only 25 he had been around the game for a long period of time, has featured in the EPL and both divisions of the NIHL and been a safe set of hands for the likes of Peterborough, Slough, Chelmsford and London.”

“With a good level of experience in his background I’ve no doubt he will be more than ready when called upon and I look forward to working with him come the start of 2018/19.”

Talking on his move to the Mos Ryan Bainborough said, “After taking some time out to play cricket and travel Australia I started training with the Peterborough Phantoms last year and was looking for a team for 2018/19. After speaking with both Adam Long and Kevin Parrish I’m delighted the Dynamos are now that team.”

“I’ve played against the Mos numerous times and it’s always been a tough place to come and play with an excellent atmosphere so I’m looking forward to being a part of that this season.”

When asked what he hoped to bring to his new team Bainborough added, “Hopefully the fans can remember some of my performances against the Dynamos for the likes of Chelmsford, Slough and Peterborough as a youngster and I’ll be working hard to get back to my best this year and push Adam Long for that number one spot to bring the best out of the both of us.”

“It’s important for the team that Adam and myself push each other but work well together.”

Lastly Ryan Bainborough discussed his hopes for the new campaign when he said, “The league has become very competitive over the last year with the new format and some very strong sides taking part which should make for an exciting season.”

“I’m looking for us to push as hard as we can in the league and to seeing what we can do in the playoffs where anything can happen. Most of all I’m just looking forward to being a part of the Dynamos and am excited about the challenge ahead.”

Ryan Bainborough’s signing is the first to be announced by the club this week with the Mos to unveil another at 7pm on Friday.
