Baggott ends loan spell at Gills

Elkan Baggott’s loan spell at Gillingham has come to an end with the Ipswich Town defender now having joined League One side Cheltenham Town on loan.

The Indonesian international has been a useful addition at Priestfield in the first half of the season but has found himself down the pecking order in recent weeks.

Having been recalled by the Tractor Boys and immediately loaned out after 32 appearances at The Gills, the defender has spoken of his desire to do well for his new side:

“I’m delighted to be here. I’m ready to get going, and help in the best way I can to assure we stay in this league,” said the 20-year-old.

The 6’4 centre-back has scored three goals so far this season, and is hoping to add even more for the Robins.

“I want to help out at both ends of the pitch. Obviously I need to do my defensive work, but I want to chip in and help add goals too.”

The highly-rated defender has represented Indonesia at international level, and in April he became the first Indonesian player to play in the EFL.

Baggott’s departure suggests Gillingham will look to bring in another central defender in the coming days.
