Sports scientist Laurence Bloom’s rumoured departure to Nottingham Forest was given further credence on Saturday.
Bloom’s former assistant, and current academy scientist, Jared Roberts-Smith, was involved in the pre-match warm-up at Craven Cottage.
The Fulham game was also Jason Euell’s last as interim first team coach, a role he has fulfilled since October.
Euell was appointed by Karel Fraeye and kept on by Jose Riga. Fraeye’s former assistant, Wim de Corte, has also been retained, and Riga has recently brought in Jose Jeunechamps to assist him.
Euell will revert to his role as head coach to the Under-21 side, a job currently performed by Simon Clark.
Clark was previously head coach to the club’s Under-18 side, and he is likely to return to his old job.
The constant changing of personnel behind the scenes has an unsettling effect on the playing staff, and it is to be hoped that the club now have a period of stability.
Chris Solly made his 200th appearance for the Addicks against Fulham on Saturday. Solly made his debut in the final game of the 2008/09 season, when he came on as a substitute for Darren Ward.
The game was against Norwich, and Charlton won 4-2. The defeat condemned the Canaries to relegation to League One, along with the Addicks and Southampton.
Solly has started 28 of Charlton’s 32 Championship games this season, and has made a further appearance as a substitute. Given his knee problem, it is a remarkable achievement.
Riga now has Marco Motta available as a back-up right-back, and may opt to give the dual Player Of The Year a breather at Preston on Tuesday.
