Ashford United 0-4 Folkestone Invicta
Ashford United 0-4 Folkestone Invicta

Three second half goals made this a convincing win for Folkestone Invicta in their first competitive meeting for nine years with a senior football club from Ashford.

It was in fact the first time that Ashford United who took over as the Nuts Bolts from the now defunct Ashford Town – have ever met in a meaningful fixture at senior level.

Alfie Paxman, in the side in place of the unavailable Kieron McCann, laid on the opening goal for Josh Vincent who netted with a fine finish from a tight angle with only six minutes on the clock.

Further chances followed at both ends but it was still 1-0 to Invicta at the break.

The one downbeat note for the visitors was an injury for striker Ade Yusuff who had to be replaced by Kane Rowland just before the interval after falling heavily on his arm.

Initial thoughts were of a dislocated shoulder, but it may prove to be a wrist fracture for Folkestone’s top scorer last season.

Paxman doubled the lead with another fine finish just after the hour and late goals by Jack Evans (85) and Johan Ter Horst (90) completed a comfortable victory against a tiring opposition team.

Ter Horst’s impressive stoppage time effort was perhaps the pick of the bunch, and reminiscent of the Johan of old who burst onto the scene with Invicta four or five years ago.

In the second round, will have a rare home midweek against either Sittingbourne – who beat Kent neighbours Pheonix Sports 2-0 in a preliminary round tie earlier this month.

Invicta: Roberts; Vincent, Newman, Davies, Starkey; Everitt, Dolan, Evans; Ter Horst, Yusuff (Rowland 43), Paxman

Subs not used: Everitt, Aboagye, Shaw.
