The 2013 Kent FA Senior Cup Final will see Charlton Athletic face Tonbridge Angels at Longmead Stadium in Tonbridge tonight.Kent Senior Cup

The Kent Senior Cup is the most prestigious of the County Cups and has been held every year for 124 years. Charlton have won the cup on only one previous occasion, in the 1994-1995 season, whilst Tonbridge have their name on the trophy twice, with a win in 1964-1965 followed a decade later by being crowned Champions in 1974-1975.

Charlton are affiliated to the Kent FA following their history of playing in what was the old county of Kent, prior to the establishing of the London boroughs, as well as affiliating to their parent county FA in London. Charlton have a history of success in the Kent County Cups with the women’s team also reaching their cup final this season.

Tonbridge Angels joined Charlton in the final after goals from Mikel Suarez and Sonny Miles saw them beat Ebbsfleet United at Stonebridge Road, in a match that saw the Fleet create a number of early chances but fail to seriously test Lee Worgan in the Tonbridge goal until a late consolation brought the score to 2-1.

Tonbridge’s route to the final started back in November with a 3-2 win away at Maidstone United in the second-round, before following up with a convincing 5-1 win at home to Bromley FC to reach the semi-final.Kent Senior Cup Fina;

Charlton’s Senior Cup trail also began away in round 2, sending out Chatham Town 2-0 before a 3-0 away win at Herne Bay in the quarter finals. The semi-final tie at Thamesmead saw a Charlton 2-goal lead pegged back to 2-2 with a penalty in the last minute of normal time and forcing the tie into extra time. Joe Piggott proved the difference, with a well-taken finish after Thamesmead’s back four were caught high up the field from a goal kick and his strike was enough to give Charlton a 3-2 extra-time victory and put them in the final.

The Senior Cup will be played at Longmead Stadium, home of Tonbridge Angels, following the tradition of one of the finalists hosting the competition’s showpiece game.

Kick off is at 7:45pm with admission £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.
