Angels announce four departures

With the season now at an end, Tonbridge Angels have announced that four players will be leaving Longmead.

Striker John Main will be leaving the Blue Square Bet South league side with Joe Benjamin, Ade Olorunda and Tim Olorunda also departing from The Angels with manager Tommy Warrilow issuing a statement on the movements in and out of Longmead:

“With our presentation dinner been and gone, I have spoken to the remaining players regarding next season. It has been well documented that some players had to be released and it is the worse part of the job as a manager carrying this out.

“Unfortunately, John Main, Joe Benjamin, Ade Olorunda and Tim Olorunda cannot be offered terms for next season. They are all top lads who have been a pleasure to manage and I wish them well and thank them for all their commitment and effort whilst at the club.

“These are all good players who will find a club easily, and I will always welcome them back if ever our situation changes.

“Jon Heath and Danny Walder have agreed terms to stay at the club and I am more than happy with the pair of them in the full back areas.

“We spoke openly about the importance of staying injury free because next year’s squad will be smaller and we can’t afford to have players missing. The pair of them are more than capable of playing at this level and I have no issues on that front. “I am delighted to keep the back four/ five together that finished the second half of the season looking a lot stronger, and with a good pre season together will only get stronger.

“I have also got Robbie Kember coming back next season. Robbie didn’t have the best of luck when he tore his thigh muscle which finished his season. I felt he was doing a good job for the side after being patient on the sidelines for a while. He covers a few positions and has played this level before. He knows we are going with a smaller squad next season and realises the suspensions he picked up last season can’t happen again next season.

“I will not be looking to add to the signing of George Purcell unless somebody of his quality comes along, can fit into our structure and strengthen our squad. The squad was changed throughout last season and I was more than happy with our second half of the season performances to start with the same set of lads.”
