Gillingham manager Martin Allen will start to give some clues as to what his best side is when they visit Ebbsfleet United on Saturday.
The Gills boss has hinted he will start to field his best eleven from the Ebbsfleet United game onwards as he looks to prepare his side for the start of the new campaign.
However, that doesn’t mean those not in the side to face Fleet on Saturday will be out of the manager’s plans.
With some new signings to bring in, Allen will start to field as close to his strongest side with three more friendlies to follow this summer.
Speaking to KSN, Allen confirmed he would look to use these last few games to formulate his best side:
“By the time we go to Ebbsfleet, I expect we will start to see the side we will start the season with. That doesn’t mean that will be the team that plays against Bristol City (in the Capital One Cup), but it will be a lot closer to our best side.”
“We have still got some players to bring in, so they will come into the mix as well, but I will look to use these friendlies to start fielding the team I think that will begin the season.”
A trip to Dover Athletic on Tuesday night is followed up with a prestigious local tie against Charlton Athletic at Priestfield on Saturday 4th August.
Gillingham will finish their pre-season campaign against Watford at Priestfield on Tuesday 7th August.
