The fans who made the long trek to Accrington a couple of weeks back were ecstatic when Karlan Grant nodded the Addicks into a 15th minute lead.
But since then, nothing. Charlton have now gone 255 minutes without scoring. Home games with Peterborough and Fleetwood have seen Lee Bowyer’s side draw a blank.
This is a longer goalless run in the League than the Addicks endured last season. They ended the season with a run of three games without scoring, but two of those were play-off games against Shrewsbury.
Part of Charlton’s problem is a lack of creativity in midfield. Tariqe Fosu is now back in training which will help, but Bowyer’s team will be without Jake Forster-Caskey for the entire season.
The Addicks are still hoping to bring a couple of players in to bolster the midfield before the transfer window closes on Friday, and Igor Vetokele is back as well.
Bowyer will be hoping the tweaks to the squad will give his side more potency. Certainly Lyle Taylor and Vetokele should give Charlton a front line to rival any in the division, but can they create enough chances for them to be seen at their best?
It is a problem that will be giving Bowyer sleepless nights right now.
