The Welling website has confirmed that their pre-season game with Charlton will now be played on 7 July.
This was the date the game was originally scheduled for, but it was delayed a week until 14 July “to allow Lee Bowyer longer to prepare the team”.
There are suggestions that the fixture reverted back to the original date as the club would be going to Spain for a training camp.
That was certainly a possibility, but now looks unlikely.
At this moment in time, the Addicks have an eleven day gap between the Welling game, and their next match – against Dulwich Hamlet – on Wednesday 18 July.
Though there is time to slot in a training camp in this break, the club may opt to play another couple of games in this country.
Former keeper Nick Pope – currently on World Cup duty with England in Russia – is being linked with an £18m move to Liverpool.
The South London Press has revealed that Charlton have a sell-on clause, which would net them a windfall in excess of £3m if the deal goes through.
