After a poor run of results that has left Welling United hovering precariously above the drop zone, Chairman Mark Goldberg has taken action by stepping away from team management duties and appointing former Braintree Town boss Bradley Quinton as new first team manager.
As a player he made his name at Braintree, making over 500 appearances, having previously played for Bishop’s Stortford, Aveley and Romford. He signed for Enfield Town on dual registration before assuming the assistant manager role whilst still playing, and then manager where he came agonizingly close to winning promotion three seasons in a row.
He took the reins at Braintree after the club was relegated from the National League. Although they finished in the last play-off place, they won three away games in a row to claim the play-off promotion place. Their win at Dartford proved to be Tony Burman’s last as manager there, then they really upset the apple cart by going on to win at Hampton and Richmond Borough.
Unfortunately, the Iron got off to a bad start once back up, and after just two months it was decided that he and the club would part ways. He is now chomping at the bit to get started at Welling.
His plans include getting the players fit, training two nights a week rather than the current one, and building up a strong rapport with the supporters as well as the players.
There has been player movement as Quinton looks to re-shape his squad. Ejiro Okosieme and Danny Waldren have been transferred to Romford for undisclosed fees whilst Joe Anderson and Moses Emmanuel have also left the club. News of incoming players is expected before Saturday.
